Danse Noble (1902) Émile Paladilhe (1844 – 1926) Saxophone Trio SAT Danse Noble by Emile Paladilhe arranged for ATB saxophone trio. Danse Noble is an elegant little piece that began life as a work for piano. The alto and tenor saxes trade melody and counter melody statements while the bari sax provides a quiet bass line. The arrangement for saxophone trio is raised one semi-tone from the original key of A to B flat. A good choice for an intermediate group of players. Moderate tempo in 3/4 time with a middle section slightly faster in the parallel minor key. The parts are very independent. Performance time is about 3.5 minutes. The late 19th century French composer Émile Paladilhe is mostly forgotten today but in his time was well respected and admired. His works were performed throughout the concert halls and opera stages of Europe. Today singers remember him for a few of songs and oboists for his “Solo for Oboe” also known as “Concertante”. Sax players may know that piece too. A transcription is included in the widely available Concert and Contest Collection for Alto Saxophone.

Trio Sonata in C is a pleasant little work by the mostly unknown German Baroque composer Johann Georg Linike. Although called a trio sonata, it does not follow the typical format of a Baroque trio sonata. Each of the three movements are quite short – think of it as a trio sonata in miniature. Together, all three movements take less than five minutes to perform. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd parts are included for both E flat and B flat instruments. The parts may be combined as desired. The short length and moderate range of the piece make this a good choice for intermediate players. Movement 1, Allegro in C major, is in common time. Movement 2, Adagio in A minor, is in common time. Movement 3, Vivace in C major, is in 3/4 time.

Although originally intended for clockwork organ, this piece is also well known in arrangements for duo pianos, string quartet, orchestra, and woodwind quintet. This arrangment is for SAATB or SSATB saxophone quintet.This amazing work was composed in the last year of Mozart's life to fulfil an unusual commission. A wealthy Viennese aristocrat, Joseph Deym von Strzitez, owned several mechanical organs (also called musical clocks). One of these was in a public exhibit dedicated to the memory of a military hero. Deym wanted new music every week for his exhibit. This Fantasia In F, K. 594 is the first of three works Mozart composed especially for it.Mozart's original title is Adagio and Allegro for Mechanical Organ. Although dissatisfied with the timbre of the instrument, Mozart was plesed to have Deym's money. The music itself exceeded all expectations. One newspaper reported: Every hour one hears a suitable music which the unforgettable composer Mozart wrote especially for it. It surpasses in precision and clarity everything which was ever attempted or designed for this kind of artistic product. Fantasia In F begins and concludes with an adagio in F minor with slow moving chords and a gently descending, weeping melody line. The middle section is in F major and features trumpet calls and flashy counterpoint. All players will be well occupied with this piece.This arrangement for saxophone quintet is in the original keys of F minor and F major. The Alto Sax 1 part has long sections of 16th note passage work and requires great flexibility on the palm keys. The Soprano Sax 2 (Alto 1 sub) makes those sections much easier. An ideal solution would be to have the alto 1 player switch to soprano sax for the middle section.T.

Purcell wrote the incidental music for the play Abdelazer (sometimes spelled 'Abdelazar') in 1695, shortly before his death. It is a lively mix of songs and dances of the time. Typical of the day, several of the movements became well known as popular songs. The rondo was later made famous by Benjamin Britten, who used it as the theme for his set of variations, ‘The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra’. The rondo as well as another selection, the Hornpipe, was included in the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice.This transcription for saxophone quartet SATB of Suite from Abdelazar is comprised of five of the ten selections Purcell wrote for the play. The movements are as follows: I. Overture II. Minuet III. Hornpipe IV. Air V. Rondo About the Composer: Henry Purcell (born c. 1659, London, England—died November 21, 1695, London) was an English composer of Baroque music. Purcell's musical style was uniquely English, although it incorporated Italian and French elements. Generally considered among the greatest English opera composers, Purcell is included with John Dunstaple and William Byrd as England's most important early music composers. Later, Purcell's music also had a strong influence on the composers of the English musical renaissance of the early 20th century.The cause of Purcell's untimely death at the age of 36 is unclear. There are many theories, some preposterous (he died from chocolate poisoning), some more likely: he died of tuberculosis. Purcell was universally mourned as a very great master of music. Originally it was an instrumental interlude in the opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan (1900). Later it gained fame as a piano piece. As arranged for SATB Saxophone Quartet, it is a great little show off piece for a moderately advanced quartet. While no altissimo is required in any part, it requires fast fingers and a good command of chromatic scales from all players. Many people believe Flight of the Bumblebee to be a very difficult workout for musicians. If you're well practiced on chromatic scales and comfortable with alternate fingerings, it's really not so difficult as it sounds. There is no need to tell your audience this fact. As for it being relentlessly fast, the tempo given in the original orchestra score is only 144bpm. Perfomance time on this arrangement is about 1:15 but nothing is stopping you from playing it faster.
